Hey guys! This is a video that will walk students through how to round to the nearest ten and nearest hundred. This is the first skill that students learned this year, they should for sure have this mastered! If you have any other questions please let me know. Thank you!

hey guys Miss Evans again we're going to work on a simple skill rounding that I think a lot of students actually already know but just in case they forget I wanted to show you guys the strategies that we use in class that way in case they forget what to do you can pull this up and kind of help them kids will either be rounding to the nearest hundred or to the nearest queso by the time you'll see a three-digit number so we'll just say last year's 467 okay so when we're rounding to the nearest ten that means that you would underline the tens place so we'll start with rounding to the nearest ten okay so I wonder why 6K and just so you know that it's hundreds tens and then ones cuz of us or our place values hundreds tens and ones sent should have that definitely memorized by now but if that's just a refresher so R6 is are tens place what we're going to do as we say underline our place and then we say look next door okay is this number five or more okay the answer is yes it is far more so I'm actually going to raise this score by one pay so that would make 407 okay but so far the last thing that we say is look to the right Pizarro's Insight cries so that would mean 470 would be 467 rounded to the nearest ten okay I'm going to do that one more time with a different number let's do will do 528 rounded to the nearest ten again I will underline my tens place which is my 2k what place look next door is this 5 or more if so I'm going to raise the score if this number would be 4 or less that I'm going to let this number right so this number happens to be five or more so I'm going to raise the score by 1 so it would be 500 and this will be a three of my tens place and then look to the right put a zero in sight so this number round to the nearest ten 528 would be 530 let's do 1 that would be 4 or less so let's look at the number 100 3K underlined my place which again we're rounding to the nearest ten so I know I my tens place okay I don't want my place look next door for unless we let this rest 5 if this number is 5 or more than we raise the score so 3 is 4 or less so I let my zero rest and then I look to the right put zeros in sight which means I just need one more zero because there's only one more digit left so 103 rounded to the nearest ten would actually be 100 okay and I'll let me show you guys how to round to the nearest hundred same exact strategy you just started the hundreds place so let's say that our number is 224 okay though that was ugly wasn't it 224 ever going to round 2 nearest hundred K so I'll actually under 100 place okay look next door is this to five or more or is it for or this case is two is four or less so I'm going to let my hundreds place rest okay and then I'm going to look to the right put zeros in sight now instead of just once we have to put two zeros okay because that's how I digits that I have left okay so 224 rounded to the nearest hundred would be 200 let's try one more let's do 886 to the nearest hundred again we under a lot of hundreds place which is our 8th okay will look next door if this 8 is 5 or more then we'll raise this score if this number is 4 or less will let this number rest okay so 5 or more to disable actually become and then we will look to the right and put zeros Insight okay so because we rounded to the nearest hundred we need two zeros okay not just one kids are getting really good at the skill hopefully by now they have this this is the very first kill that I taught if there's any questions that you guys have just let me know thank you
