Our first Digital Tea & Talk was a great success! Watch for tips from Mrs. Winfield, our School Counselor, on surviving the thriving during this time at home.

morning good morning how are you I'm good how are you I even have my tea that's good best mom ever is a knowing all the characters from Disney slime teen talks about couple minutes to John Wayne 8 ball under good morning good morning before we get everybody off we're going to ask that unless you're speaking we're going to have you knew just that we don't have a whole bunch of noise so just meet your computer so you can still hear us but we don't hear you what do you want to speak because I need it cuz we're going to have like a discussion so everybody wants to make sure that they have where it says video that they click so they can join by video how you do that Miss Chambers no I have no I ain't got no video Brandon Tucker looks like he's logged on but he does not have video hi Brandon you don't have you don't have to be visible if you don't want to I just want to make sure that if everybody that wanted to be visible was visible man okay so I have ask everybody before we get any more people on so I'm thinking about doing this video and I'm going to be in my house and I started going around thinking I needed to clean my house and I kept having remind myself just going to be me I don't have to clean the bathroom in the kitchen like I'm having company Define a nice background and they don't know but I just kept having people over for a meeting I better do something oh wait no we're going to have a virtual meeting good morning good morning good morning good morning and I will be on here the whole time because I have interview I'm just going to stay and fight for the First Baptist minutes and then I will be meeting over Zoom today I have until whenever I want to start just let me know I'll let you turn me out okay looking to see Let me give it one more minute mr. Penn said he was going to join us this morning for sure so I'll go ahead and just kind of do the introduction welcome this is our first virtual T&T meeting together if this is something that everybody would be interested in we are happy to doing it to connect and just reach out and we know this is an unusual time that's the virtual meeting that we wanted to continue to just connect with everybody let's see the format is that we're going to have Miss Winfield share some information just about stress and emotions and all the other stuff besides the homework and everything that needs to get done and then we'll have an opportunity for people to just ask questions what they're going through share some things that they found have been working getting through this time and then we'll talk about teacher meeting so without further Ado I handed Mo just by the way if you know other people were going to do the English one from find a 10 and then we'll do the Spanish one from 10 to 11 so we give all of our community and opportunity to get together and we're recording it so we can post it later booking still drawing for a watch sorry I came up with five point tips for parents that they can kind of do during this homeschooling telemarketing when you come home I was at this point is to be available to talk Honest Kids probably have a lot of question that I really know what's going on we honestly don't really know what's going on so just be available for it to talk to your kids and I suggest being honest with them I'm your don't try to sugarcoat it just say no. Carnival hours if they have questions about it and I will limit their news I know the news can get very overwhelming even for me these days so I would limit the news if you watch the news and I was limited to your children I want to have conversations with him I would definitely be available to talk because it's none of us have ever been through any of this I don't believe so stick with a schedule on kids love structure they work best with sections and Construction in school I will come up with schedule together posted in your house I make it similar to what they were doing in school but maybe not in street because I mean is your home and you are their parent and now you're playing playing the role of parent and teacher schedule be specific hang it up and follow through the more structure you are the more successful they will probably be at home and less to get on your nerves my .3 is would be to a daily goal maybe read one book a day for my smaller kids maybe read 10 and 15 pages a day maybe during recess run two laps around the house make call that I do everyday so accomplished as a parent and they were as a student and your child so just make some type of goal let make sure they know their goal is it date do something at school Sarah favorite snack or some TV time or whatever it is they want to do you send me send this at home as well just like we do in the classroom number for is to get Creek you're at home so use it to your advantage don't look at it as a negative use it as a positive make a snack together go outside do a lesson outside do some work in your living room makeup I don't know you just need to like oh I'm at home with my kids and make it fun there is virtual field trip there GoNoodle I know they're free now being that we're home that's like a Brain Break YouTube is Emily's like you can find anything on YouTube so I will just get creative I know that teachers have suggestions things to do at home I know they're already sending you guys stuff but ways to make a creative I would actually teachers I'm making my stuff and Google is your friend like I Google everything and you can just ask just to make it fun so they will have fun my last tip is to journal and track your feelings make it where they kind of right about their feelings and they Journal have their cell number but when they're practicing writing and they're tracking their feelings so then you can kind of read it and see how they're feeling and you may want to do that with you to it maybe therapeutic for you to sit down and talk about their days how they feel about this whole coronavirus and staying at home just to see how they're feeling and if you noticed you know some inconsistencies or something that's alarming to you for sure reach out to me I don't mind talking to your kids or you I'm your biggest Advocate as well so those are kind of my point I also sent out a Google form to all of the teachers that if they wanted me to call their students text email Reserve alcohol I can do that I know this time is overwhelming we are swimming in Uncharted water every day is new if you got time to reach out to me but I can't figure it out but I will send some emails out or link something to your teachers I know Miss White is going to put on my Facebook page with the link to contact me will be there yeah those are my five point do you guys have any questions if you do remember to unmute so I can hear you I just want to add a couple points when field one is one idea when you're setting goals for the Daily maybe have your students input that likes it down in the morning and ask them what something you want to accomplish today and see if maybe you guys can set a goal or you could come together and have one goal that you guys both want to do and then on the creative I know that Miss White has posted a lot of stuff on the dojo and the dojo app to link to that and maybe check with your kids again there's probably some things they want to do I know I have some kids in my life that they're now in high school and we make these ants on a log it's celery with peanut butter and raisins and when I go visit them they still is it something that you're doing together you can you can turn your assignments into something like that and then the big thing I wanted just tell you guys is add number 6 there give yourself a break take a breath how much you are doing this is not easy for anybody it's an extra it's a change and most people I don't know about you most people are not fans of instant change and that's kind of what happened so take a moment to tell yourself I'm doing it job center front of the mirror if you have to ask for making you feel like you're not doing enough or whatever take a moment to just tell yourself I am doing a really good job and I can do and I am I'm doing the best I can give yourself a pat on the back absolutely always and reach out to your your child's teachers from home so we're available if you need help or if you need suggestions if you need more work I know I'm on my way but if you need more resources to reach out to your teacher by we are here we are working from home to serve you and your kid I just over here for so do not hesitate to check them email the email address I can get you in contact with your kids I'm confused about noon I know is only confusing like it so you have questions about any of that reach out to your kid's teacher we want to make this a less stressful time for you during this transition until we can figure out with your kids already but I'm just reach out to us so we can help you as much as we can miss Chambers and Miss White me and my family we just want to thank yous to the whole school system in District for everything that y'all done recently with the lunch meals and everything like that in the war together that that was I mean that's Xbox everybody here is trying to stay with you no virus free or what y'all have done from the school On and On videos y'all y'all making tremendous efforts to do everything I can it is really been amazing to watch everybody step up to the plate that teachers definitely went above and beyond Miss White I don't know when she's wait cuz someone ask for something to be post and she just got it up right away and figured out a way to help us do all the  stuff technology but it's been a whole team you know I keep saying together we can and if you guys have parents I mean just showing up for this tea and talk hopefully we can continue doing this and we can help each other cuz none of us can get through this alone even if we're having to be what is that a socially separate we're supposed to be socially just we still need each other so this is one way we can come together so thank you guys for being here and spread the word cuz we want to continue to do this as long as as you guys want to be here we want to be here spread the word and let other people know but yeah 30 PST we definitely had an amazing Step Up that's all for me to leave the meeting cuz I have to go to another so thank you all for coming and participating and please continue to share the share with other parents about these meetings that we will be having Miss Chambers and send out information and posted thanks Miss I said Miss Winfield but I am leaving the zoo when she talked about the journaling I read somewhere that like we're making history right now this is going to be an event that is in the history books and if you are journaling and you're recording your feeling what's happening those are going to be called primary sources 50 years from now. hundred years from now similar to like Anne Frank's diary and so if this is a really big significant thing we're going through it's going to continue to be a really big significance and so for me you like knowing that I might be contributing to a bigger and better world in the future that helped me kind of have a purpose and so like every day like at the end of my work day when I sign off I get out my journal and I just make some notes about like things that are happening in the world where we're at like you know what what the news is saying what's happening in my house and that kind of helps me keep a record and help me go forward have any suggestion I've been doing what we called boo Joe it's called a bullet journal and I'm trying to get my kids involved because the way it works is you get a design of the way you feel you get to put into your journal what you want to put into it whether it's to track your mood how you're feeling weather is to track Weight Loss I mean it can be for anything for anybody with my kids I'm trying I'm trying to do it with like their class work and how they're feeling that day and honestly with mine I was thinking of doing a coronavirus spread in my memory journal and it's been touching go on trying to figure out information on something but obviously I felt that that's what works best for me and here's an example of what I track in my bullet Journal be there in a behavior chart for my kid here's my March my weekly marches which says the days and what I have going on that day that's my Aprilaire that's my May right here is my medicine chart to make sure my kids have got their medicine for the day here is like movies and stuff that maybe we can watch later and keep us busy Brewster Honda keep keep them learning and doing new things there's one from music for different music things. maybe that could help them learn like the go noodles and the what is it called my son is boom chicka rocka chicka rocka chicka boom or something like that I don't remember exactly how it goes but I haven't seen one my son just absolutely loves and it's a journal about bigger ones store but it really helps just to get your mind off of things and it keeps you busy and occupied you can draw in it you can do whatever you like one and it my kids been drawing in theirs right now what is the kinda winner Stouts like go sit down and go color go do something you know touch calm yourself and then come back and talk to me kind of thing that's good that's good thank you for sharing that does anybody else to have any questions anything to share any how about any topics you guys might want to talk on another meeting is there anything specific you guys want to cover now if we were if we were actually in skin talk I go around the circle and have everybody say one thing that they're grateful for so how about if we do I don't know how the order is on these I don't know if everybody can see but I can see who's on and I can see you guys are muted so how about this if we just go around and start at the start with Miss I say one thing that you're grateful for right now or if you want to ask a question or share something and if you don't want to you can just say pass or you can just say no Plainfield opportunity to my daughter is eating breakfast opportunity to work from home but still service family and home to stay away from the bars and keep my family Miss why I was going to say I was thankful for the opportunity to work from home cuz I know a lot of people are losing their jobs and I'm thankful I'm not what I'm really thankful for today is it we have the technology that makes it available for a cystocele 30 years ago we would only have our family and my very very small and so I would lose out on a lot of opportunities to connect with people if I didn't have the technology available okay let's see the next one in the queue is Miss Preston do you want to share something yes I wasn't sure when I was coming up I'll try not to be long-winded but a couple weeks ago we had one of our student Support Services meeting and we did an activity where you listed your roles that carry personal info and we talked about you know which items we dedicate more time than we'd like to 2 and time switch items that we'd like to dedicate more time to you and three of the things that I put down was of course to the biggest roles in life being a wife and mother and I talked about how most of the time that you spend more of your waking hours with people that you don't live with it so I am thankful for having this opportunity 1/2 still earning income home be able to still try to connect with my family but also we shift my phone cuz back to the things that really matter I have a second grader I have a four-year-old y'all pray for me on here and I have a but it's been really refreshed in to be able to do you know just have one-on-one time with them because most of their waking hours they spend with their teachers or they're in childcare and you know you just getting the hustle and bustle and by the time I pick I'm up from school at 5:36 and we're in a routine just to go to bed and go to sleep and get up and do it all again the next day so I'm really thankful for that thankful that my husband he's here right now he's working from home I'm just thankful to just be able to have it's time to slow down and I think this no matter what your faith is for me I think this is God's way of just saying stop he's in control thank you thank you dr. Dreher you want to share good morning everyone morning yes I will share that I am thankful for the ability to still be able to do that I'm with our teachers and our staff and our families that are out there knowing that we are not able to be together physically for this time. But we were still able to connect I'm really thankful for technology but I say now that I am thankful for technology that was still able to connect with you all and have those conversations and still support you through this time why we're not physically fill in the learning process thank you Miss Klein mr. Sexton neither one of you guys want to hear something you're grateful for now I would have to say I'm thankful for like like somebody else mentioned my home to be able to keep safe and and make sure that everybody's healthy definitely isn't technology that way I can communicate with everybody that it is able to help us out I know Aiden's teacher Miss ring she has done an amazing job she's done morning videos with my child Aiden and is basically preparing herself and my child to know how to work on Zoom during this time and my husband had something else to say as well I just want to just you know II much and everything that she just said and we're on the same path we're grateful for basically the same things my family they had the flu and pneumonia there for about 2 weeks ago and I'm very grateful I still have them meet her still inside everything that you just said thanks you guys are you back let me see if I say your name wrong please forgive me and request me to send Kina Shekinah Shekinah you want to share something I am late I would had another call I am thankful for great teachers you guys are doing an amazing job just to reiterate what he said I am also grateful for you know the time that I'm able to stand with Joey it's kind of work at home and then teach her and keep her but I am so grateful for everything that you guys are doing and he know you not putting it back before I get an apology old and that resources that we need to make sure that I start children because it really makes a difference for about 2 hours yesterday and I really think you just wanted some time with you but I mean it it may need like it just gets like what my heart cuz she didn't have to stay on but she did for like little small many questions that we probably knew I mean you know you guys are doing an amazing God what everybody else says you guys are doing an amazing job and I really do appreciate and I'm very grateful for each of you and again like the time that I'm able to spend with my child that usually I'll be at work and she'll be at school I do appreciate and I do enjoy the time that we have together Venus our families in our students to I'm trying to get her to bed if I keep running Anderson in my goodness a little late in the morning so cuz my meetings usually start about 7:30 you have time for coffee and get through cleaning then I get her up and then the face making it work for you that's what's important right there I can see looks like dr. Gentry might be busy right now yeah I said it. The one thing holiday that I am thankful for is that my children are still healthy yeah yes yes yes thank you and share something sure I'm just very thankful to be able to still communicate with families and provide much-needed help and support that they still need and I'm glad to do it at such a good organ we have I think we've shown that we've all put together and gone above and beyond and given the circumstances we have been forced to deal with thank you and and I have to say we are all so grateful for you because all of the stuff that we do you have been translating and so I know that you just passed out a whole lot more so thank you. Would you like to share something you're grateful for voice unmute you Great Falls we're having lots of quality time together and I'm relearning 6th grade math this is just great y'all thank you so much for doing this at mean thank you parent for jumping on here and sharing any of your needs and concerns and knowing that these folks and Folks at all of our schools are here to support thank you w r c from Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools we need RR my teachers and other places now more than we probably ever had before so we can all kind of get through this together and then steal from each other and and share with each other and just just thank you so much for doing this I think this is really going above and want to try and make the best ending with with what we've got so thank you thank you thank you thank you let's see Maddie do you want to share something I can see Ron but I can't see you I'm thankful for the school system I'm just thankful for a lot especially ClassDojo Tech Nine thankful that I do have this time with my children to learn together they're teaching me some stuff that I have I guess forgot I'm thankful that's all my children is still healthy have a large family and we've all ducked and dodged everything so thank you we appreciate you I can see there's a w Rowdy but I don't see if you're a mister or a man but if you're on and you want to share something feel free to jump on I see that you just joined us we were sharing something that we were thankful for do you want to share something you thankful for how about Miss Keller you want to hear something you're thankful for Yes actually I am thankful for the daycare system my children's daycare has thankfully State open which is allowed somewhat I work in the food industry so I'm unfortunately we're not closing down cuz they still need us I'm still being required to work as much as I can on quarantining in between that that's the only way I go but I'm very thankful for the day care system and the fact that they stay to open and they've restricted everything and they've been able to still be there for you know to still give my kid that environment that they're used to they still get in kids in the school allows me to work a little bit even though I'm not able to work as much as I was that's something I'm very thankful for that along with all of you to help me through this learning how to All My Children so and with it being the second and third grader it's it's very difficult so you know I'm just I'm very thankful very very thankful for it like I said you guys and wonderful technology that's keeping it all together yeah well thank you for being out there are preparing food and serving the community we appreciate you I feel like everybody's had a chance to share if there's something else we are looking at probably keeping this up every week same time we're going to do 9 to 10 English 10 to 11 Spanish is there any topic that you guys really were what it is to cover do you want do you want to change something what does anybody have any feedback moving forward with our Zoom 10 talk time I guess maybe a suggestion of opening up I don't know if this would be something that would be feasible or not but on the days that I work I miss everything and I don't know if you open up an afternoon time freaking up those parents that are still required to work to go out here in and instead of work do you know there been a couple meetings I unfortunately had to miss because I work afternoon time opening to be able to do the same thing for those that are still having see you in the morning okay okay will definitely look into that and just to let you know we are going to record all of the tea and talks so the ones on Zoom so if you do Miss like you can always watch it wiggle post that Miss White Christmas I'm wrong on Facebook and Dojo on our webpage on dojo alright anybody else okay I'll just take it back off of what she said I think having the options of two different times would be perfect because like this morning I have a 9 a.m. meeting that ran a little over and I think that if we if we had an option I really appreciate the zoom and the recording but I think that it's much more personal I get so much more out of it when we actually speak to someone live know if we didn't have that much attention to like a second meeting just in case we are but I am glad I made it okay alright I just had a quick question for the younger students power if they don't have a device to get on how are they doing to do their digital learning like Woodland 3rd and 4th 5th graders you know they're offering Chromebooks but what about the younger students Miss Winfield do you know that answer to the question I know midnight, but I don't think we had we don't have 101 Chromebooks or laptop at the primary level I know their second and third have classroom but I I don't think that they were able take them home with white please jump in some laptops that are 2nd and 3rd graders but they're not quite honestly they're more trouble than they are useful and so the decision was made that they will not be going out so right now we don't have any Resources Houston home to those younger kids another round go out when the next round of him and we're going to be information about what what right now a calendar would look like like through May 15th. Should be coming out later this afternoon and this evening and for the for kindergarten second graders there will be opportunity to get another round of that paper pencil those packet and it's going to have him turn in your current packets last week at attorneys in and then how to pick up new one you know what whatever they said about K2 you know what there's just not devices available at this time and what is available is not good and I think the white hit the nail on the head anything did they use in the school building would probably be more trouble than he's headed home but we are working to get that next round of of work together for the students in Haiti going to go home the next couple weeks to be looking for that we're going to do it all call tonight and also be toast in kind of a letter on the website that lays down what right now the calendar can look like May 15th. Everybody knows that at any point in that could happen in that will change our plans you know we've got something we're going to send out today with the best knowledge we have to get us through May 15th and we're sending it out knowing that next week we might have to go back in and change that so that's kind of where I think everybody is but that's coming out today and it'll be communicated by the phone call and also be posted where we can post it Brandon Tucker just passed about family done with kids K through 12 that don't have a device to reach out to him I I don't know what that's about heater message to bottom yeah I was trying I heard somebody asked I didn't know if it was specific to them or just the general question I don't live in a rural families message me if you don't either Dojo or Facebook saying my kid can't read because all we have technology okay is there anything on this call right now that doesn't have a device I currently have on my 3rd grader in that one question. Was going to ask I actually applied for the Chromebook I did that plication on the TV has website but I have not received any feedback as whether or not he was approved or how that works so I don't know how to really follow up with my 3rd grader in the Chromebook but I also have a second and he's currently having to use my phone to get stuff. And he's very limited in what he can do because it is a cell phone my two kids are my two first graders the same way using my phone to see what they have to do I mean with it my son didn't want to do his phone me or his new meeting with his teacher today cuz he wanted to sleep in so that was the reason I was are you able to make it here today because the meeting was supposed to have been at 9 as well so that's the only way that we were actually be able to able to be on today was because he didn't feel like when he was supposed to be going to have his room anyway feature this morning my first graders don't have nothing you know other than my phone in my 4th grader supposed to be having a Chromebook as well but we have not had any information other than to find up for it yet same here does anybody talk to Gentry do we have a timeline on that do you know what the procedure is for Dad or maybe I'm just I know you're working with some families entice frantically some stuff in the chat so people can see it let me hit enter here real quick okay so is if you filled call O if you're in grades 3 through 5 and you filled out that form by yesterday there are Chromebooks being prepared to be distributed to you by and I've got in the Box Liberty Drive so even if you're in third grade and you going to pick me up so they're going to be distributed tomorrow from 1 to 4 and then Friday 8 to 12 okay now if you did not fill out the form yet fill out the forms going to stay posted and they're just being you'll have to wait until the SEC it does take there's a lot of stuff that has to be done that kind of white and clean and reimage of them and get them ready to go out so that's not like a 10-minute process is like an hour long and turn on a skeleton crew with our technology we've only got two people here right now so in and out for tomorrow 1 to 4 tomorrow and 8 8 to 12 okay and all of them are at Liberty Drive so even if you've got a third grade I think you said you had a third grader man even though they're in third grade and make it a TPS pick up the Chromebooks cuz that's where their house right now thank you so much now if they have a student if they get a Chromebook can they use it for the other students that might not be in third grade what we're trying to do and we kind of got lost in the data we tried to kind of cross reference their first thing was we tried to cross reference table has siblings and 612 all kids have Chromebooks so if we know they have it right because they're six 12% if they didn't put those folks on the priority list 5 to get it and and yes the device that was going to be given to a kid in grade 3 4 5 if there are younger siblings in K-12 at home can be used anybody have any what are you guys doing about sterilizing and cleaning them when they come by because that's one thing that would work that we have to we have to go back about the meetings because we've been here allowing people to take you know that ice is in the equipment Wednesday in question is like where we going to do after the devices it's like you know somebody else or whatever when it come back to the school devices and when those devices come back how do we sterilize them when we send them out that's part of what they're doing is is really cleaning them up to you and they're putting them in a in like a bubble wrap envelope like we had a bunch of FedEx envelopes soap thank you for the referral cleaned up and ready to go in those envelopes that are bubble wrap but what we're looking for guidance on his two things when they come back exactly what she said we need to make sure they're there clean when they come back so that was a question we've already asked if we're waiting for an answer on from the health department stuff like that what we did get advice and you'll see the day when the information comes back keep the van or going to ask that those get dropped off on the 31st and 1st but that teachers don't deal with them till the second of the third because the advice we've been given is a what's the downtime of light 24 to 48 hours helps to try to kill the virus so we don't want our teachers pulling out the packets so they'll probably just sit in the bed for 24 to 48 hours before the teachers pull them out and look through on them to see this first days of work the kids have done in the pocket did get that died in for paper stuff but we're waiting on the guy or Electronics but they are going out kind of Dino really will write down sealed and hello and we'll have to we'll have to get the guy there before May 15th how they need to come back to like I said I just wanted to check because I'm going back to school I just want to make sure that you know Zoe should be using but I stay at home but I still wanted to come by you know Pay-O-Matic sorry I was going to let everybody I thought welcome you now yes, because I got another one in about 10 minutes but I want to pop in and say hey miss everybody tell if we're going to go ahead and get ready to wrap up because we are doing another tea and talk at 10 for our Spanish-speaking families I want to give you a cup case of information will go ahead and plan on next week we'll look at doing a morning time and afternoon time I'll get together with the the ones that are helping with this and see if we can work it out and then we'll publish that I'm JoJo with the link on their
