now I have the record button on I just want to remind everybody that we are recording these meeting so if for some reason whatever that is you don't want to be videotaped you can turn your video stop your video and still see us scored the English and the Spanish and then they'll be posted on Facebook for those people that aren't able to make the meeting or if you want to go back and listen to something from the meeting as some of you guys met on Facebook kindergarten meaning schedule has been posted if you have a child who will be 5 honor before August 31st or you know somebody who has please spread the word to go to that website to laugh information they can request a time to be scheduled and then within 24 hours during school business days will get back to them to confirm that the other thing that I want to give everybody a heads up that we didn't posting is we layer of security so they'll be a second door that people come in when they come on campus just as an extra layer of protection so nobody can come on campus and get straight to our sweet baby so that's going up right now as far as I've heard I've heard they started cutting the door and that's going to be put up over spring break the school the entire school district will be shut down next week for spring break Wednesday we will have another chance to talk in the afternoon that mr. Klein will be leaving so any other housekeeping things I forgot to mention anybody all right then if you guys would just while miss like Siri, go ahead and put me on mute and then when she's done we can go out and have a great discussion thanks guys Caymus Wine you're welcome. Don't know me my name is on the library and I talked about reading together with their kids give me just a minute I'm going to switch over to want to share my screen can you sing why can you not see my reading together okay let's try that again Lifetouch screenshot came up yes okay great thank you we are going to talk today about reading together with your kids at home the first thing I want to remind you of is that you got as parents as parents we are our child's first teacher and we were maintenance raineri teacher after school Advanced degrees in the special skills and you also have some of those skills you just need a little bit of help taxes and that's what we're going to do really important to give you some tips on how you can do that the first one is vocabulary exposure vocabulary and understanding vocabulary Iran kids with a red 2 for 20 minutes a day they will sorry Mom must have exposure to way more words year they will do better on standardized tests that's all pretty much expected standard from the educators are always saying what's interesting and wanted to share University of Oregon comic books and graphic novels average rare or complex vocabulary words I'm not even more more than like adults and so if you have that is really struggling to get them a graphic novel or comic book kids what we do in school did we talk about predicting what is going to happen next in the story you can do it and you can do it what is the temperature inside what do you think will happen house made of sticks is going to last or I wonder if they would have been better off if they've chosen a different reading material for building with you asking and answering questions is heater should not parents teacher should not always be the questioner it's important for students to ask questions about what they're reading and so you can make it a game and I'll tell you when I slip out of my screen share dice template that I'm going to put, text you when I'm done and you can just turn it into a game so read the book roll it whatever comes up ask a question that starts with that word so before we go back to court for a little taste, but I used last spot hero win when when did put something in the middle it kind of helps to keep its shape blue on the tabs it's not going to be the most stable thing but you can make a little game out of it for asking questions but you just roll it by your reading or after you read and it's something fun for the day I'm happy to hear parents one thing that there finding with reading with their kids are they reading more than reading less did this help you at all what was what do you finding this helping incorporate reading with your kids at home hello hey Hey Zoe has been reading more since we've been home what I've been doing is like I'll break up her session or class with reading so she'll do a live the password and then I have her to read for like 30 45 minutes and then we'll be more classes work and they will read and it breaks it up so it's not like she has to sit there and like it like that at the beginning it was a little bit cuz she thought that she was just going to play but now she's to the point like she got up this morning she want to get up early so she can have our worth reading first and then and you know I do this and then she if I'm her teacher she'll do her classwork and then she's going to go with for a walk with the neighbor so she's actually into it a lot more and you said that Diary of a Wimpy Kid she's all except she's read it like three times so she's back in so I mean it work that's good that's great anybody else Miss Klein I know Aiden has epic through his teacher Hayden is very very interested in it as well and I was just curious on how do we do that by teachers or do we sign up and I know Aiden I mean he will read like crazy on an epic and Hayden's been getting on it to Aiden's every now and he'll read like crazy on that as well Raz-Kids I mean Aiden he's interested in it but just not as much as they can he like the way the teacher can assign him a that's good that's good I don't know if we could do and this is Michelle from 3rd I know a lot of us have been signing up with epic and giving account to our kids and things like that so his teacher may be in the process of it Miss Klein I actually did send an invitation on Monday to Hayden join ethics okay I will have to look and see cuz I I've been busy of myself so I have to make sure I look on dojo and pick that yes yes I'm a resend it if you don't see it okay thank you and I think question I have a Scion has been on Raz-Kids we had an issue with him with just breathing in general or even at school and we were able to find hooked book for him he is all about the comic books so I definitely would say if anybody has trouble already struggling with their child wanting to read comic books are the way to go because my son would not pick up a book at home like it was a struggle every single day and now he's picking up books other than comic books if that's what really kind of got him hooked and started was the comic books and now he has gone on to Raz-Kids and he's actually bread all the books that are available on Raz-Kids right now which brings me home which brings me to my question he is now out of books on Raz-Kids so what does he have to do to be able to open up the next level is a something his teacher has to do be able to open up more book for him yes I should be able to go in and open up the next level of books for him okay what a really great problem to have that's very exciting and I think I think I think what you're doing is taking advantage of this time I read an article this morning and I'll GPS it is call Karen you are enough and I think the one of the points was Finding different ways you don't you don't have to be regimented you're not teaching the class you don't have to try and do this like a teacher would do it you need to find what works for your how exciting that you found a way that now he's exceeded expectations for reading wonderful it makes me happy comic book anybody that struggle yeah I definitely recommend getting a comic book because that was what that changed that completely changed the game for him completely I never knew really how powerful graphic novels and comic books until I started reading one they made sense of adults and they are really good I'm reading the Lock & Key series that's on the Netflix show it's a it's a it's a graphic novel and I started wow that's that's really exciting and that's kind of what this the whole point of this is that we can get together and say this is what's working for me and this is Anton does any input on that sell thank you guys for sharing are there anything other topics any other things that you guys need questions that you guys want to put some information out there some things that are working for you anything open Florham what what what do you guys want to talk about what are you guys have questions about or what he does want to share I just wanted to say hi I hate being that his teacher was on here it's easy easy it's pretty huh what do we have oh you're an aunt Susie a house with two Edward tomorrow is pick up for on pick up homework packets correct 8233 all day at the primary so you can go pick up your work if you signed up for a Chromebook for third grade in those are getting passed out at Liberty Drive and I just want to remind everybody that week we get back we'll be mr. Klein talking about technology and working with technology and helping that with your students one of the things they did mention in the article was one parent said I'm getting all of these emails with information and technology and taking and it's overwhelming and so I just would encourage you guys to take a breath find yourself that you are enough you're doing a great job this is not something any of us have ever lived through before and so we just need to make sure that we're giving ourselves Grace and when you need to step away it's going to be okay I think the most important thing that we can do for our kids right now it's just let them know that we're there and that we love them and that we care about them and next week is spring break so no matter what your kids are going through next week is spring break I know we're all excited about that before we leave I just want to give everybody the opportunity to join us and let us know one thing done really well for you in the last week so we're going to go around and if you guys just want to pop up that I call on you but you know if you don't do you know I'll call turn right quick mystery of the packets that they're picking up today and tomorrow on the 8th and the 9th he's next set of packets when are the children expected to have those why is do we have a completion date that they need to have those completed by or we will probably start dr. Gentry are you on here when are you expecting to send out another group of packets are we going to do it in two weeks or most teachers for two weeks and so probably about the first week in May it will get more information out to you all because typically that comes from the district as to when she wants us to send it out and then she'll do us the next Ed to go out call me on my phone not going to question about the packets as well I know that my boy is and being in first grade there isn't going to go along with weekly things that they send out on the computer but further my daughter in 4th grade is is that the same way does she need to pick up the packet if she's doing the online stuff school dance on the computer okay and so bad they will just follow along with whatever their teacher has for them on canvas or hang out or whatever okay yeah if they're online they should be getting everything computer emails from teachers Google classroom so our third fourth and fifth should be going online for the most part the help okay can I also ask character on here do you think what we're we're providing too much not enough other things that a working day and start great like what do you think about what we've been doing for you I think that it's going pretty well personally I usually try to do one one maybe two sheets depending on his front and back and it'll just be one cheetah mask I usually have him read at least one or two books so that they've got the 30 minutes and then I don't know like what set of sight words my boys are on but but and I've been throwing those again writing I think Hayden still can't figure out are you breaking up with me is everybody else see that clearly she's breaking up a little bit parts of an app what she was saying is that it was okay for her right now but that thing that she was struggling a little bit with the writing that went to one of her kids you ever ate her Hayden was having confusion or okay I'll look at that thank you until May 15th, I'm not going to say 400% of everybody but we will get the information how can I say Miss Wilkes actually dropped off Scion packet here he'd be she actually brought it to me because I don't have transportation and she went ahead and gave me enough for up until the 15th and she just called me in April I agree with it because it is a lot of work and for you know him to just kind of take his time with it and it was plenty that till I kept it till the 15th I just didn't know if it the same was going to apply for my have you already picked up your second brightest I have not and they have a lot of bears as well so play back yes Rachel if you need me to I can swing by and pick up his pack and drop it off for you that would be excellent Danielle yes my van broke down I don't have any transportation so yes Danielle that would be a big help if you could do that for me I would greatly appreciate that thank you so much all right I'm not sure what the the problem with the play do you have any ideas why have you had this before every everybody needs to mute their Magic Springs that's what the problem when it's coming through so like if I toss but then somebody's not muted then you hear it again through their screen so if you're not talking you should be thank you that was very good before we go I want at least have a thumbs-up just to let us know if you guys had something guys are really doing the impossible everyday and I I want you to make sure that next week that you take some time to just put your feet up to just check out takes it to do is tear it up and just rest relax and I look forward to seeing you guys Wednesday after break I just had a quick question for Rachel so I can make sure I pick that up it's a beach or wealthy Stroud now cuz she got married but the Stroud exactly the same so just when you go over there and get a 2nd grade packet and sign off by his name and Danielle I'll be home all day where do I go for my husband to get back but as soon as he gets back I'm going to head up there and grab all the packets awesome thank you so much Danielle you're welcome guys see you guys later have a really wonderful spring break and thanks for all you
