okay so we are now recording and our speaker this week is mr. Klein thank you so much for coming and giving us some information about technology and learning from home I know something that we all kind of need a little bit more information and direction we can always use some help on so we really appreciate that so I'm going to let mr. Klein go ahead and get started and then we'll come around and check in with everybody after he's done with his car Jason thank you mr. Klein K Michelle butt has the ability to mute everybody I just don't leave it open so I trust everybody that beat themselves and unmute themselves they want to so I can't beat everybody cell basically I'm just going to talk to you like a dad today because we're all dealing with the technology with our own children with our students and I'll be the first one to tell you like doctor Gentry said earlier this week in that email we are way ahead of the curve I met my children Guilford County and they have just started today was Devils vs zoo yesterday was Sophie's first if they are spayed FaceTiming turned into a phone call to speaker phone I mean when I tell you we are above and beyond compared to what I see in Guilford County just my own children at their school I think we're doing a great job so that's what I had to compare it to I'm struggling with technology just like the rest of you I know like people I see on the screen Miss Crow I mean I've been observing her for 8 years now at 9089 I know when I walk in there it's not just kids on iPad is not just kids sitting there playing games or doing whatever there is a purpose behind everything she does a way to keep him engaged because fifth grader and a first grader as a dad of the Norman okay do I trust my first grader to give to go independently do something on a computer and learn at the same time while I have time to work with my 5th grader and do something independently or do I need to be with them the whole time and I think what I learned recently is because my first grader I have to set the expectations that means I have to teach myself how to get in do all the technology if we assume I assume my wife assumes is not in education that it had to get on and they get on and it's almost like we're playing like they had to do what they're better than me a technology know they're not you have got to learn it like it would be a teacher and teach the children how to do it so after I figured that out not right away that week 2 days to figure out how you know they need Daddy I got login need help doing this and help doing that I sat down at the okay today we're going to learn how to log in show me how you login we're going to sit there because it makes my life their life so much better and we practice it five times activities you going to show me how to login you have to teach them how to do that I don't know I seen her but we're not in a classroom setting children at home now when are children go home from school usually technology might be specific enough for them to deal I'll give you a perfect example of this is with our parents Raz-Kids you just raise your hands parents anybody out there know if using Rask so my daughter uses Raz-Kids which is a way to read so how do I make her accountable how do I know when she's in her little Florida built in the living room she's actually reading or Raz-Kids the right if I have to be with my older daughter or your break time because technology for me I'll be honest okay I'm done teaching go get on the computer for a little bit I need you go ahead break and do something we don't really know what they're doing now I'm talkin for anybody to stop me but I think I'm the stuffing from my experience so what I tell Mike was Stella to do my first grader is you have to all three boxes green the best part about it is you can listen to it if they're not able to read it you can set the level you can read it themselves and you can take a quiz I tell her to come back after you read two books and show me all three boxes of rain so that's what I do and I don't do anything longer even with my older child in 20 minutes 30 minutes max I really need a break but 20 30 minutes may you can continue it but you need to check in and see what they're doing okay so that's what I do with raspy cuz that's probably the most popular one that we're sending out there to our students they do not get credit if all three boxes are not check they need to listen to it I need to read it themselves need to take a quiz and they don't take the quiz or not successful what you can see on there then we either read it again so that's why they're always got to focus I didn't want to read it again hey so if you want to unmute represent or have more to talk about unmute if we have any questions about what I talked about so far or any of my teachers have comments about what I said Jay can I meet me everybody Zoe is that one last kids but one of her friends I'm stopping her parents last night and she said she has a first grader and she said that she didn't have any other resource my question is it possible that she reach out to one of you guys so that she can get her daughter the same resources she also attends sensor primary the prodigies on the freckles all of their fur technology platforms that you know are available Raz-Kids if she can use that for her daughter to do it they would have to do it independently misting Zone it is free right now so they can log in independently we have to go in first grade first grade okay if the teacher should have the login and they keep up with it usually do you know what teacher I don't but I can text her mom and then see if I can get her in contact with you maybe an email address so that you a lot of the teachers have it and I know there's a lot of first grade teachers that have Raz-Kids 2nd grade a lot of others are doing epic and there's another site that they can use so trivial login where they can monitor how she's doing and add and take it like add harder books or take away certain books and I like the fact that you can monitor it so I bet that teacher probably has one she may just need a login pick you up before I move on anybody else when I raised her hand has something they want to say teacher or parent Miss Digger Grave Digger for the one that was just talking about b s kids there is epic right now as well and you can have that with or without the parent I've noticed after Miss Brenda had sent me the information for my child notice that website there was a page that the news is shared for all the free websites that are available right now for four years while the kids are out of school also a good one that I have noticed is ABCmouse they do have a free membership for parents right now for the time being in the schools being closed and that's a great way as well for the do reading or math or really anything in my boys love it I will definitely let her know I think she's more lest wanted to make sure that her daughter is not getting left behind by not logging in do some of the applications that are provided by the school that you guys are able to like see but I will also share her share with her that information so thank you so much are the things that are school that I really really need you focus on just so many resources out there is almost overwhelming to the teachers and us about things that are free but we're using and our school will using Raz-Kids bring me some wrong when you see tsums with your teacher set up with your teacher done through your teacher and if you have an issue with Sassoon relay the message to get with them also he saw is our one ever really using which is an excellent application break into the lesson going once instead of like in Guilford County where we have to go into canvas into the assignment into uploading this tesol Royce Gracie activities to work I can do it there and they can submit it right there so we have space all we have but the teachers and we have Raz-Kids now we have a lot of the other free stuff up there am I missing I know a lot of you use a lot of different things my daughter's use IXL will you lay low good ones out there but when you're looking for one besides the ones I mentioned look for the ones where you could monitor give you another example I'm at school yesterday and today my daughter's on IXL I not a super fan of I still attend school difficult but I can monitor from here so I got a little picture to said look I did five sections in an hour. If you send me little text I'm sitting here with Miss Stevenson and I said that is impossible so I was able check on my computer hear call my sitter at home and say what happened and how that happened I'm looking on their none of this done while she had on a different level so being able to monitor on your own even if they're hiding in the house new technology you can check and see what my other device or be able to monitor knowing that you can see what they do is something is really good with the site so make sure it's something you're doing anybody have a question about that you going to make yourself if you want Lucy style some of the teachers have can I put the seats out there and some of the parents having been receptive to it if it's like that you can contact probably anybody from the school that can help you that can talk you through the Seesaw it just helps with some with the evaluation when they're doing the things with the children you can see their work so any of the technology that you are maybe stomped with that will be happy to help you with any any of it yes we recommended yesterday and we spoke to our teachers I'm sorry steel steel view call even told our teachers all your parents back and talk them through this I mean call them and say hey let's sit down your computer let me talk you through it right now while you're on your computer you know what I mean for saying if anything through text messages it's easy for me it's somebody just sit there and walk me through it and the other part I think a lot of us across the district correct me if I'm wrong they were having a tough time with his if we're giving out Chromebooks laptops for the older kids are older levels into these devices we spent a lot of time and second and third grade teaching art as we got to see scalars and emails now I don't know that pertains to a lot of us here because this is like Arlo on by younger gray levels using the bikes at the house but you know Miss buck and I were talking just yesterday about you know you got to eat yourself as an adult and a parent how to get into these things first before you teach a child because like I said a lot of setup to get into a computer and my kids don't want to type in client at CCS. K12. NC. Us to get into the computer and then have to type in my password which I knew 7 years ago you know it's like is a lot of stick do you really have to teach in the process of getting into but I've doesn't retain so much to engrave but as we get into third grade fourth with the devices are handing out there needs to be a lot of weight is there anything that I missed about that no I think you got it and if parents are still struggling they can reach out to me and I can walk him through things to you I've even got something that made for specific teachers that needed help making make a step-by-step direction for a specific program or option they're doing so they can find me on our Facebook page through my email or on Jojo and I can walk people like that I can help cuz I can't do that by the way tour of a new teachers or Building Society is here so we are meeting shortly is a couple other things I wanted to touch on is the things that I know have worked with me and my child like for example in first they were doing shapes so just getting your phone or your device and doing a scavenger hunt everything by taking a picture of it and bring all the pictures back to you something really simple that I've learned teaching I mean I don't know what level do I was great and we can do anything even if it's letters words kindergarten you can go out give me a phone take a picture make a little slideshow do whatever they like but putting it into the world that something that I found help with both my girls and I turned everything they're doing in this naked find outside or whatever they can do and do it scavenger hunt a can make the scavenger hunt they can go out to take pictures of it go to 18 pictures of my tires have a triangle in it and eats little group rate 3018 pictures and we got to talk about the sides and all that stuff so that was something I like I really enjoy when I can get them to read like I said on a device play independently reading it, everybody on the kids are supposed to be Raz-Kids even talk with you want to listen to them well if you just want to hand them your phone and let them record themselves read a and make them work out listen to it later just simply record what they are reading let him read in the phone I'll go ahead and do the dishes not that I still a go ahead we get to book but I want you to turn on my phone to read into it and then I'ma listen to it later baby shop that I was better than trying to read or what they can't do even stomach out there most battery uses my older daughter go to your room and read and read it as weed it's off the alarm. I even gave her her little earpods of earbuds I think he's really not speaking out loud cuz you like to be soundly that you can hide her deficiencies and reading with me so she puts it in her ears and now she thinks but she's reading out loud I can hear it so something else Kroger check on that because I have Jackson at home he's in kindergarten and same thing if I want to do anything really good I'll be like to record you and since I'm sure I'm take a picture of it singer teacher and it's the best for me but is writing I make him read it on a video take a picture like it works other kids I can't teach my home what a great idea. Go home and it does not turn on the trampoline but themselves you know sitting there doing what I promised in the zoo anybody have any other questions Pistons own any comments or questions about what I spoke I know it sounds simple but I'm trying to give it to you practically on rescued sales or have the opportunity to record them to in send it to their teacher you can check on the static and check on always check the status of checking the status of my children on Raz-Kids to there are learning how to and I are teachers even started sending stats of the class I know you don't want to wake him pair but I like to see does that because now it's almost a competition for her first grade class just not nothing major how many books they read at this level of BAC like how many books their readings a petition but it's based on Raz-Kids in the teachers can keep track of that stuff anybody else have any especially my parents out there I know cuz tell me you miss broken myself I don't want to speak out where you were were in deep to we understand it's tough with my other children summer technology out there but I'm now they're allowed to but yeah his first ones night she's been sending videos but she's been asking me for help sound like oh yeah we're going home every day here let me tell you miss Steele I know you watch we watch him all day long here about 3:20 today we popped in and out on and from what I saw compared to like other places if it's really great in our attendance goes up every day I mean like I said basilia was upset she had like 1 today none yesterday Leslie she had 10 it's just a matter of keeping consistent with it I know matter has on the kids in her class all the time the more you do it the better they get and I have some pictures just doing 101 I know my son my first grade teachers they have a whole schedule we're going to be with their kids one-on-one to cease all things to do at home that is discussed that with them on a zoom 101 it but I mean manners invitations have to help resume stop muting please sit there sorry came in late you know it's really takes a while but they'll get it like they would anything else I'm Sorry Miss I know Miss rinks doing them like she does three morning mornings at like 9 and she'll do that usually on reading days and then she has Tuesdays and Thursdays as her math days and reading days missed tenzin's been in there a couple of times and she's got at least probably eight students or something each time she signs on I like your feedback like that to you know we observe it but doing great nail of studying and we kind of pop in but I'm glad you're you gave is that, he just absolutely loves every day that he's able to get on and see her on unzoom he was she ain't got to see my friends and I can see my teacher and he's always so excited and even Miss Brenda hasn't done any that we're aware of but Aiden had her hated his actually wanted to join in with Aiden just because he likes to see what's going on and stuff like that so he gets to see how things are done shrink as well as watching the video that Miss Brenna has posted on his class week it's great. I just tell them they could just see your face you know I know we want to teach and we want to progress I'm looking to have a kids react I mean 3rd grade we got three points that I'm doing a group thing and it is hilarious the first let me say the kids and their parents loved it and never answered in the chat and they were copying answers off the chat and we had to fix that but here's the thing are engaged and they're liking what they're doing so the net is not the one that is perfect but y'all make it perfect cuz I mean manners always up do matter how crazy it is dogs barking is fine this is just about to get to see you rock the block Friday is it going to 2cs like like not up close but face to face and then we had like Miss crisp I know you went to see Observer another teacher Miss Vernon today resume did you get to see that yes I was so good she is doing other teachers have been going and we've been telling them to go in and watch other teachers Zoom to see how they do their lessons which I thought was a great idea yeah that was cool because like kindergarten I can see what the first graders like what she's doing next year but her kids are like already doing like they're gray work so I was like wow this is like really cool step things up and we get a text from earlier men's dr. Moore's daughter and my daughter were Inverness class and she figure out real fast what works and what doesn't everybody like them we're all doing it but it's linear but I think Miss still may have been in there today or somebody on our team was it Miss Jody about 12 kids that right miss you when did the parents at 9 I think it's great that you are trying to find what you said about it and back then I'm awesome lesson with her vocabulary words with the Motions to go with her words and then those words were in the story so once you heard the word in the store you did whatever motion it was for the war vocabulary list but it was a very good last great I think the takeaway 2 from what everybody is saying is that finding what works for your kids as parents and as teachers the same things not going to work for every single kid and so I think I think everybody's doing the best they can with each group that they're working with with their own kids with the groups that they're working with and just kind of giving yourself Grace and remembering we're all in this world it's a tough situation but everybody's doing the best they can and just finding what works for your student yes Miss extra I know there's other people you know what I see if the other parents here and stuff and I understand from the best thing that works for me if I have three students and I have to learn first grade and love you do you know that and then I have one that's in 4th grade so what are you trying to do that works best for me if you have like split you know grades especially if I'll try to start one off and get them set up and then baby once I start at she's got most of her stuff done then I'll start in the boys or I'll start with the boys and then I'll switch to her but I always make sure that cuz the boys of course I'm learning the same thing if since they're both in first grade they have different packets and stuff like that but it's still mostly the same thing what's of course my foot my 4th grader she's always on her Chromebook doing something and I mean she's always constantly asking me how do I do this how do I do that in swamps trying to her the best examples as I can for myself but it's always like I said I always start with one grade weather be my first graders or if it's my fourth grader just so I don't get it over with and Ice it's a good idea for you no other parents or whatever for them to try as well if you're getting too overwhelmed because you got a first grader enough third grader a first grader and 5th grader some start with just one child to begin with and then once you got some take a break with that child and go to the your other child and it makes it so much simpler because I was getting overwhelmed I was having migraines really bad because I was getting stressed out and it wasn't good for nobody so I made sure that I sat down I really thought about how is this going to make it easier for me and for them both to be able to get it done so I made sure that I put my put my thoughts together and I was like okay this is going to work best for me so I'm going to try and then I found out that this is the easiest way for me to do it so I just wanted to pass that along to other parents don't trade to just sit with one child and then go to the next later this session is like the best never because I felt the same way and one gets up about an hour or the other lights are working right away but that's exactly how to figure out the hard way ones on the computer and then let him do it I still can't you get your free time I got to work this child now so it really doesn't make a difference travel time to both the same time I can imagine teaching two different grades 1 grade kindergarten is like all right well thank you so much mr. Klein we appreciate all this great information we're getting ready to wind down a little bit but before we quit I want to make sure everybody's doing okay thumbs up if you guys are doing okay you guys had a good spring break like this Trimble oh no I tried to catch myself when I fell down the stairs and it's nap I just want to say that you all and I'm talking to all the teachers and all the parents on great this is just be sure you give yourself a daily pat on the back cuz moms and dads who are on here and what I've been doing who is real so at I mean it's this everybody's We're All in This Together folks and I appreciate you parents for being here and I appreciate your teachers for really just pouring your heart and soul into this we are going to try and do a and I think it's going to be a little crazy so please forgive us but we are going to try and Caravan around town on Friday morning and honk horns as much as we can without getting arrested hoods I know we're not going to be able to hit every single house but we're trying to get the key places so be on the lookout for us cuz I know I know I miss seeing his faces I can only teachers and I'm completely like so pumped I'm like decorate my car so ready to see my kids but I have a question is a so I know like teaching my own child when I get into that but also do that and work has been a balancing act because I have conference calls about 80 to 85% of the day and having to stop and you know how much is zoom or a test on assignment really been a struggle can let me see exactly what I do right here like today Tuesday and Wednesday and when I'm at home I really have to wait and I hate to do that I just think about working all day and Roy I just had to pretend like when I get home tonight I'm going to start tonight I give the busy work type stuff that I know they can do independently while I'm working maybe home Raz-Kids did you something simple that they did half pit with them before when I get home tonight at 10 I'm going to just have I have to just focus completely on what they're doing cuz I can't do it anymore when I start working chaos in the background I feel bad for the teachers that are watching me and Mikey and my own kids running behind me and asking me questions I have the paper in front of the screen I feel you I just have to call about the time when I get done early test that will okay I mean that's one of the things we've talked to most about is the grace we need to give ourselves and Grace we need to get our kids in the grace we need to give our parents what is today Wednesday yesterday we all know what that means hours of Zoom called yesterday and zoom stuff and and episodes and it's it's just a big old balancing a you know she she really struggles with math so I know that's the time when I've got to shut down work and and help with massive to do math later on today but but know this everybody you know Grace is is our operating right now and as for everybody giving the kids grades cuz we know all of our kids every single one of our kids is in a different situation every single one of our parents is in a different situation probably a lot of our parents are here to help then you are ma'am that means they're unemployed which is creating a whole note this virus is gone so racist we're going to be to everybody who's a bulldog for sure I was going to say just give yourself a break because honestly we can only do what we can do there's the kids are going to be okay you guys are going to be a lot of the work that we're doing you guys are taking on the role we have in addition to the stress of work so don't beat yourself up do what you can and they are to be fine every single day I extended my Zumba class to an hour and a half where I get the whole I teach the lesson for reading math and everything and have some parents just kind of hang out do what they have to do but I'm still monitoring like they have to follow directions I have to see their face they shouldn't be running over to you to bother you so for that hour and a half there with me and a lot of appearances frosted that is helpful because the rest of the word they should be doing independently I'm there to answer the questions for an hour and a half you guys are there for support that you should not have to worry about that whatever you're doing is absolutely for where's my daughter's school this tell me that because if you're not told that you don't share with your friends you think that I have to do all this stuff and a half all done so I'm on canvas and putting stuff in I would love it and I got to keep doing it and I'm feel stressed but I don't know that so you hear from our superintendent and us please take a break and just now they told me that I'd say we would not be stressed out of my house as I would now that I am now I've learned as a parent that we have to be really flexible with school here at the middle school and they have this challenge what's the schedule like do i-Ready from here 9 to 9:30 or something though cuz Michael still in bed cuz that's what I'm getting most of my work done so he does the 45 minutes ago but it's usually in the afternoon after lunch you know some other time he's getting the work done but he's not necessarily sticking to the ideal schedule because it just doesn't work our family good please that would make me feel wonderful thank you we live on a dead-end road the closest intersection for us to be jiren in Memorial how would we be able to see you guys driving by the route and then I might be able to jump into but I think we're going to drive I think we're going to go right by that that I'm going to go right by the stadium and come out so we would probably hit that corner of June and Memorial we're going to go up you were probably working with mr. Hogan if you want say anymore still I just know that was correct. We need to go out so we'll be we'll be sure to say call Memorial then for us to be able to see something else is coming up next week that I want to make sure you guys know about is we're having spirit week next week right now trying to share my screen so you guys can see that okay so can you guys all see that did it come up but my computer locked up yay I can drop it in the chat I can drop the poster I just sent turn on dojo and on Facebook to okay I'm using a really old computer and sometimes it a little bit slow now everybody's disappeared see if I can find you guys again can you hear me okay I can't see anybody and it says it's not responding not letting me pull anything up it's okay mister white display in a chat for everybody so we're good Joe all right well I just I can't see you so I'm just going to talk and just I wanted to share with you guys then we have a couple scheduled Zoom meeting still on the books and next Wednesday will be in the morning and Miss Winfield is going to leave at 1 and she just going to be talking about getting things done getting through the things all the things we're doing at home checking in with everybody so that will be really good if you've already accepted any of the zoom meetings that I sent out then they're going to get deleted and resent because the ones that were scheduled before do security don't have the password in them so I'll be resending them out so I'm sorry your mailbox is full trying to get filled up so that way you'll have the password in them and then the following week we're going to do pick up keeping the boat ballast for questions you can ask your child every day to help them Thrive during the season so I still can't see anybody so I'm just going to I can tend the meat I can't do anything technology and my internet I'm not sure which which is the culprit here but I just want to thank you guys for making the time to come out for parents and the teachers in all of our fan can we just really really appreciate you we appreciate all that you do to connect
